But personally I would prefer to use a phone that doesn't require juggling skills and perfect eye to hand cordination.

The camera resolution is low, but on par with most of the phones that were new at the time. The camcorder function actually works pretty well, though I can't say I see how the "low-light" feature actually does anything.
The touchpad absolutely stinks. I've spend more time than I care to recount trying to customize the response settings, and calling it clunky is the greatest compliment it could ever receive. I constantly have problems with the pad interpreting sweeps as taps, and then not picking up taps at all at times. No adjustment of the sensitivity ever gets it working well. I've got big hands, though my fingers aren't fat--perhaps that's the problem. Then again, the xl shirts that fit me fine in the waist in high school (a 32 then and now) seem to be built for guys with a 40-inch gut these days. Maybe if I put on some gloves to thicken 'em up some, then it would work "as designed..."
Battery life is wonderful if you use the wallet, and abominable if you don't. The wallet feels like a brick in my pocket, and I absolutely love how skinny it is as just the candy bar; as a result, I just end up carrying the candy bar all the time, and recharging every...single...day. It's as bad as my Blackberry for work (hate carrying that thing) without the wallet.
I really don't mind the flip at all. Navigating menus, flipping, more navigation, and flipping back can easily be done with only one hand (if you have any measure of manual dexterity). The small phone screen is just functional enough to get the job done, and keep the keys from getting crowded down to a microscopic size.
Overall, the phone is sexy as hell in terms of it's size and looks (both comments I make in the wallet-less context). If only the touchpad worked better, the browser was a little more compliant, and the battery didn't stink... The Instinct looks pretty sweet, but I'll be damned if I'm paying $350 (plus renewing my contract for another two years) to get Sprint's "upgrade pricing." It would be cheaper for me to terminate my service, and start a new contract with the Instinct. I don't get that logic at all. Go go Sprung marketing...

Although the calls are clear, they are easily dropped no matter where you are the signal always fluctuates. It is kinda aggravating that all you can do on the small screen is make a call and send a text that takes forever to read since it goes practically one line at a time. You can pretty much do everything on the large screen except type in anything which is the worst thing that could have been done with this phone. I don't want to have to keep flipping this phone over and over during a text conversation or surfing the web. And the thing I must say that I hate the most is that the battery sucks!!!! Unless you keep the phone glued to the wallet battery, after about two phone calls you'll have to charge it again (that's unless you keep the calls down to about a minute a piece). It also freezes up from time to time and that drives me crazy because no matter what button you press nothing happens. I wouldn't recommend this phone unless you are looking for a phone with a good look. Performance wise you can do a lot better

But, with the case, it's nearly impossible to flip the phone back and forth to enter text.
Oh, other than that, if I just wanted to listen to music and talk on the phone it would be OK. I should have shopped or waiting for the Instinct.

First off the flipping drives me nuts, if you want to do ANYTHING on this phone you have to flip it, but if you have to type something you have to flip it back type what you want then flip it back. On the music player side (the only side you can access any options on) the menu has numbers and and symbols corresponding to a key pad. WHERE IS THE KEYPAD? The service is horrible, if you hold it wrong you drop the call. Without the extra battery case, which breaks very easily, your phone will die in a couple of hours. I will say that this phone is aesthetically pleasing, but that is where the good stops. Also with the battery pack on there it makes flipping that much harder. I can't go 3 hours without my phone freezing, or one full day without it crashing on me. I have never destroyed any phone out of anger but this is going to be the first I can't wait till I get my new one because I'm taking a hammer to this phone. I think sprint told Samsung to design a phone with their eyes closed, the result is the Upstage. So PLEASE take my advice don't get this phone if someone even tries to give you an Upstage for free tell them no. flip flip flip flip freeze flip flip crash flip flip flip flip freeze crash flip flip flip flip flip...

The keys are ultra sensitive even tho we changed the setting to the least sensitivity possible. The batterys on both the phone do not hold a decent charge. The flip feature was fun for them, for the first day or so, then became a pain in the butt. On the positive side.....the photo/camera. Takes relatively nice pictures/videos.

The problem or one of the problems with this phone is that unlike other phones wherein you can detached the battery to turn off the phone to ultimately reset it for example, this phone does not have the option. This phone is totally internal.
Some of the other problems I'm experiencing is that the phone freezes up quite often. Don't rely on you're clock display because it will stop working. It will still display, but a delayed time. Now everybody knows if you can't rely on your watch that you wear, you can always rely on the clock on your phone, simply because that is all controlled by satellite. One day I was at home getting ready to go out and at one moment I looked at my regular house clock, and another moment I looked at my phone clock and thought , "WOW, I have extra time". I surely was wrong, I was late for an appointment, and didn't realize until later there was something wrong with my time on the phone itself. I tried to update the software, turn it off and on, play with the buttons; nothing worked. The only way it would update is if I went into a different screen like contacts or something then went back to the main screen then it would show the correct time. I contacted tech support and they tried everything I tried. They said it needed to come in for repair. PROBLEM! Sprint does not give out loaners until your phone is repaired!!
Another issue, the front screen gets confused with the back screen ultimately freezing the phone during it's flipping operations. In other words, the front side is the side where you dial, so when you want to use the back of the phone to access other functions you have to press this little button on the side of the phone that says "flip".
Another experience, God help you if you don't have the unlimited plan, because with this phone it sometimes redials on it's own and it won't hang up. I've had this happen and the phone did not stop until about 2 hours later. I took it to the store and they could not do anything. Did I mention they don't give our loaners?!
There are quite a few other disfunctionalities about this phone but I'm getting more mad as I talk about it because I can't get rid of this phone just yet. If I wait until July of 2008, I can upgrade with a $75.00 discount. Yippee!!
I wonder if the "B" (Beyonce) version of this phone has as many problem? Then again maybe not cause her name is attached to it. Who knows . . . I'm not willing to find out!!!!

I purchased the upstage at a time when Sprint had few non-flip phones. The large screen is nice, but since there is no keyboard on that side, it can't be used when sending a text message, email or just about anything else. Google Maps for all practical purposes, is completely useless with this phone (while it works great on my work Blackberry). The batter can't be replaced and I've had to replace the phone twice for battery and once because the memory card reader stopped working. There is only one connection, so when the phone is connected to the computer, you can't charge it.

With the second battery the phone can go w/out charging for days depending on use.
And it's a flip phone, so expect to flip for certain actions - a lot. I figured this when I bought the phone, so I'm not sure where everyone else is coming from. Those who are complaining because you must flip to type or flip to do this or that - what else were you expecting? The music screen is a great size, bluetooth works great but yes, if you have larger fingers this won't work for you. It's a tiny phone and I love that. My only real complaint is that when music is playing (or some of the other features) there are certain other features you can't do.
Enjoy if you get it, but know it's still not perfect. I'm sure there will be an Upstage upgrade coming out soon and I would get one again if I knew there were certain improvements in ease of use of the features without having to close other features first.

I love the size of it though and I bought a belt clip and headset/microphone for it so I can jog with it and answer my phone if someone calls during my jog (the music stops automatically and then resumes when you hang up). Bummer you can't assign songs you download as your friends' ring tones - which makes NO sense since it is a music phone????

0 of 0 people found this review useful i have always favored samsung products but this is probley the most user unfriendly device i have ever seen from them it is not condusive to a "real" user the speaking part of the phone would b the only part that fuctiong to par unless you have more space between ut mouth and ear then 2 inches as for all other fuctions on the phone they are terriabley unweildly as for the music applications again they fail as well with the touch sensitivity being poor at its best u can enjoy your music just not it the order you choose which brings me to another good point the random shuffle is only slightly more ranom then you skipping tracks yourself which you could again do if the controls didnt suck and then to hear your music you can use the addaptoer provided which starts comming lose and then your music starts cutting out or pay the 100 dollars to get the blue tooth head set so i must say all and all i have been vary dissapointed with my so called "upstage" experince

If you cant figure out how to work this simple easy to understand phone then you shouldn't own any cell phone! The upstage is sexy phone with amazing battery life, even with on demand, sprint tv, and web access running ....

The upstage is sexy phone with amazing battery life, even with on demand, sprint tv, and web access running constantly i still get a solid 2-3 days with the battery wallet. I have big fingers and thumbs( i am 6 ft 3 in & 218 lbs) and some times they do go a little haywire on the small buttons and touch pad but it hardly diminishes this great phone. The short of it is; this is a great MUSIC phone thats MUSIC phone its not a PDA, blackberry, palm or any others; its a MUSIC phone. So if you want the features of a blackberry then buy a usless blackberry and be happy that you spent way too much on a over hyped over priced phone. just make shure you get blackberry service with it at an extra monthly charge!!! hahahaha

I hate how you have to go back and forth to certain things. The sensitivity is awful.....no matter how I set it ....it is so sensitive that I always seem to have to start over. Also for someone with big hands it is very hard ....

Over all I don't like it......not for the price I paid for it.
