Good, solid performing PCS modem with EVDO Rev A capability, as well as backward compatible w/slower 1xRTT system. USB connection, so will work w/laptop or desktops. Cradle docking station is nice, and allows to orient the device for best reception (wireless devices are very finicky, due to the very short wavelength used). Do not expect DSL speeds - you aren't likely to see it. But, in EVDO rev A areas, I consistently see over 1 Mb/s rates on D/L (u/l vary widely, usually about 25-33% of D/L). Keep in mind that tower distance from your device and user load (congestion) will drastically effect performance. Peak hours may have much lower data rates. Don't blame that on this or any other wireless modem. BIG PLUS - the U595 has an external antenna connection. Adding an external antenna in fringe areas can make huge increase in performance, and reduce packet loss/error rate. In my area, EVDO is marginal, but external antenna results in a solid lock, and much improved data rates. Only downside was the supplied Sprint software - original version that came on CD w/my unit was buggy. Newer versions are much better - be sure to download the latest version. Lastly, if using the modem w/o the cradle (plugging in directly to USB port), be very careful not to bump into or knock over the modem. The swivel USB connector is not the strongest thing in the world, and could break if hit too hard. Overall - very pleased w/the hardware.
